National Grid Enhanced Home Sealing Incentives

National Grid is offering a new Enhanced Home Sealing Incentives Program (EHSIP) providing incentives up to $3,000 for sealing and insulating residential dwellings.

This program is available to eligible customers who meet the following qualifications: Upstate New York homeowners living in residential 1-to-4 unit owner-occupied dwellings, who heat their homes with National Grid electric heat or National Grid natural gas heat. EHSIP may be an even greater benefit to homes built prior to 1980 because these homes tend to be less energy efficient

The CHA and installation of air sealing and insulation will be performed by an Energy Specialist: a participating EHSIP contractor who is professionally trained and certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI). Enhanced Home Sealing Incentives Program Website

Background

On June 23, 2008 the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) issued an Order establishing an Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (EEPS) for New York State. In this Order, all New York State utilities were required to implement a residential natural gas heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) energy efficiency program.

The purpose of the program is to encourage customers to purchase and install higher efficiency equipment, thereby reducing the state’s overall energy consumption and encouraging wise energy use.
