Message from Fred Beardsley - Chairman, Oswego County Legislature:
Energy conservation and the use of renewable resources are the future of this nation. Oswego County is well-positioned to play a key role in sustainable energy production. With your participation, we can make a difference in the sustainability of our environment..
With three nuclear power plants and ten hydroelectric plants, Oswego County is already a leader in clean and renewable energy. In 2008, the Oswego County Legislature developed The Green Team, further establishing our county’s commitment to sustainability. The committee’s charge is to explore opportunities for County government to reduce its energy consumption and conserve taxpayer dollars. These cost-saving measures include “green” purchasing, energy-efficient building controls, single-stream recycling and use of alternative fuels.
Oswego County is well-known for its great outdoors. We are fortunate to have pristine waters and thousands of acres of state forests, wildlife management areas, and parks within our boundaries. We have a vibrant citizenry that appreciates the value of these resources and works hard to protect and maintain them. Working together to reduce our energy consumption and subsequently, our combined carbon footprint, we can have an effective impact on the preservation of our precious environment.
Thank you for visiting “Renew Oswego County” On these pages, you’ll find useful tips to help lower your energy use and utility costs. We’ve also included information on rebates and other incentives that can be used by Oswego County homeowners, businesses and organizations in our joint efforts to minimize our impact on the environment.
